Fabric coupons, money, postcards and the like are the imagery that surrounds us, imagery that seldom has personal value. By combining and re-using parts of found material, I can give it personal value, through the telling of a visual story based on fantasy and association.
When adding or subtracting certain features, I aim to observe the ordinary in a unknown way, revealing hidden qualities. It becomes an effort to visualize and reconstruct a tantalizing thought.
‘To understand something is not to be able to describe it. Instead taking something we already know and making it unknown thrills us afresh with its reality and deepens our understanding of it’ – K. Hara
Images and texts I find in magazines or on the internet, as well as objects that I find in shops or on the street, inspire my art. Once I begin with an image, text or an object, I let it guide me, either by reacting to it or interacting with it. I hope for a spontaneous aesthetic (surprising, humorous or serious) that adds my personal world to the public space, the world outside.
