The appearance of imageworlds became a lively fact to me, and it is the image itself and its notion, that has a prevalent relevance within my artistic discourse. Besides the image being a mere visual occurrence, it influences many areas of my life with all its ambiguities. I built up a personal archive of imageworlds that I came across and use it as source for my works.
In particular, I research the relation between painting and photography; a constant discourse between photographic reference and the autonomy of painting. Both, painting and photography have a seemingly equal potential of iconographic representation.
This raised questions on how to deal with and how to reflect an image. What are the qualities of an image, and how do images think? And further, what are the differences between a painted and a photographed image?
For me, it is not about the image represented by its iconographic recognizability but about its actuality as an image and how it operates within my own context. And this critical approach allows me to defeat the image as such.
My interest is to create alternative, yet unconventional interpretations, appealing to established ways on how to approach daily occurring images.
