In her theatrical installations, Efrat Zehavi depicts the tragic aspect of human existence, though not without satire and grotesqueness. Combining sculptures with décors, video animations, photographs and sound, her staged ‘mise-en-scènes’ provoke a dialogue within the space of the installations. Zehavi’s work is narrative; it is epic, she uses allegorical stories, mythological stories, stories from everyday life and stories from her own life.
Her sculptures are painterly; they derive their power inevitably from her hands. She works with soft materials like (model)- clay, wax, plaster and papier-mâché. With these materials she can ‘shape’ her thoughts in the most direct and intuitive way.
